Plumbing Maintenance Tips for Restaurant Owners

A busy restaurant may serve hundreds of customers in a single evening, and during dinner rush, a sudden plumbing failure can be disastrous. Backups in the public restrooms or kitchen drains may force you to close prematurely, until the problem can be repaired. Fortunately, following a regular maintenance schedule can prevent many common plumbing emergencies.

Grease trap maintenance

Most commercial kitchens have grease traps that prevent grease from clogging drains and sewer lines. These traps must be cleaned regularly – ideally, they should be thoroughly emptied and cleaned every few days, but that’s a time-consuming process that’s difficult to manage in a busy restaurant.

When grease traps have collected solids amounting to 25 percent of their wet volume, they must be cleaned. In many restaurants, that means traps will need to be cleaned weekly. Kitchen sinks drains

When sinks back up, or the dishwasher doesn’t drain properly, you can quickly run out of clean dishes, flatware and glasses.
